signature Ceramic Detailing

It’s a matter of interest for all car owners. But more to it, this is a significant question for all the proud owners -
What is Ceramic?
The simplest way we can explain ceramic is that it’s like a glove used to protect your hands. Simply, in this case, it is transparent/invisible. Or you can even compare it with the nail polish that you wear.

Advantages/Edge of having a ceramic done
  • It protects your vehicle from industrial fall out

  • It protects your vehicle from bird droppings

  • It resists minor hairline scratches

  • It prevents the vehicle from heavy water spotting

But for these entire features to be effective and to last longer; a certain degree of decorum in aftercare is needed (washing procedures to be followed strictly)

Now let’s talk about the flip side if any - For the ceramic to last the expected time period, like any other product, we need to pay a little bit attention to the aftercare too. This is simply to follow the washing procedure as directed.

Myths & Facts - Ceramic Coating

Ceramic is swirl mark proof and maintenance free

FACT :- Ceramic is not swirl mark proof. But yes, it shows better resistance on minor hairline scratches. For example, when you drive on to the high range and your car brushes against leaves, or harmless bushes. Here if your car is ceramic protected, these hairline scratches can be washed off by yourself without any professional detailers help. However, if the car brushes against a thorn and the damage penetrate into the clear coat and further onto the base coat, then the scratch is beyond the ceramics holding capacity

Multiple coat layers of ceramic increases the protection

FACT :- Idiocy!!! When the car paint is prepared for the application of a sealant, be it normal gloss sealant or ceramic sealants, the micropores are being cleansed to accommodate the sealant to interlock onto it.

Once the sealant is on, the 2nd layer cannot interlock onto the first layer of sealant. Simply because there are no micropores on the sealant. If we claim there are receptive micropores on the first layer sealant, then the claim of ‘hard enough to repel all elements' will be a contradictory statement.

Ceramic is hydrophobic, and it lasts forever

FACT :- Any kind of polishing done on a car paint done by a skilled detailer can make the car paint hydrophobic, so when you add the ceramic 9H protection it acts as an extra layer to it. So is that hydrophobic formula permanent? Absolutely not! In Indian conditions it may last for 3- 8 months depending on the care you give while washing.

That it provides more gloss than waxes and sealants.

FACT :- The finish of the final car is strictly on the hands of a skillful detailing applicator. The quality of the product should be considered as secondary. The sealants, be it gloss sealants or ceramic content, the self-gloss enhancement feature is marginal or negligible. The final finish doesn’t depend purely on the sealant it depends on the skill of the detailer.

So hold tight to your wallet when the detailers talk of layers of ceramic.

Each time your car comes for periodic maintenance the ceramic layers has to be enhanced/recoated, so that’s the time when your money spent comes to action.

Take the gloves example - do you wear three gloves at a time no right? It won’t even glide over one over the other for you to be able to wear. So, if there is a need to use gloves for 6 days they are just charging you for six multiple gloves for 6 days.

Well professionally speaking, the layering is basically at WFT (wet film thickness), and this is the ethical duty of a professional detailer to provide the best WFT to its customers.

With years of professional experience, we at EDGE vouch, there is no layering business after the WFT stage. That is at the DFT stage (dry film thickness) once dry; the film (ceramic coat) repels anything and everything.
